AIRIS AI
Mechanism-Informed Multimodal Generative AI for Causal and Dynamical Modelling in Biomedical Research
About the project
AIRIS AI is an EU-funded international research initiative that brings together 21 partners from academia and industry across Europe, the United States, and Canada. The project aims to develop trustworthy, mechanism-informed multimodal generative AI systems for biomedical research, moving beyond black-box predictions towards biologically grounded and explainable models of complex diseases.
By integrating multimodal biomedical data with causal reasoning, dynamical modelling, and generative AI, AIRIS AI seeks to uncover previously unknown disease mechanisms, generate and test scientific hypotheses, and ultimately accelerate target discovery, validation, and the development of new therapeutic strategies.
The Hayat Lab takes part in the AIRIS AI consortium through Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, one of its partners. Our group contributes expertise in artificial intelligence, single-cell and spatial multi-omics, and AI-driven disease modelling. Together with clinical and experimental partners at Uniklinik RWTH Aachen, including expertise in organoids and patient-on-a-chip technologies, we aim to bridge computational modelling with experimental and clinical research to enable biologically grounded and translational AI-assisted discovery.
